Ep 018: 5 Things Quietly Killing Your Confidence in Midlife (And the Swaps That Bring It Back)

You didn’t lose your edge. It went on leave.

You’ve run teams, raised humans and handled other people’s emergencies without blinking. So why are you now double-checking a two-line text? Midlife changes a lot at once, and somewhere along the way a few habits crept in that keep your confidence on the bench. None of them mean something’s wrong with you. Most started as smart moves. They’re just past their use-by date. In this episode I name five of them, pair each with a swap, and share what happened when I tested my own confidence on an outrigger canoe.

In This Episode:

  • Why confidence in midlife rarely crashes, it leaks
  • Shrinking to keep everyone comfortable, and the swap: getting comfortable being misunderstood
  • Waiting to feel ready, and why action builds confidence, not the other way round
  • How to turn comparison into information instead of a verdict
  • Why one failed attempt is data, not a personality assessment
  • The too-late story: your age is a fact, “therefore I can’t” is a story
  • What a beach full of paddlers of every age taught me about turning up

Your Prime Power Move:

Pick one of the five habits, the one that made you wince. This week, catch it in the act and ask: what am I telling myself this means about me? Then make the swap. And make yourself one small promise, and keep it.
